Success Stories
Minsur — Mining
Challenge: The tin supply chain lacked transparency and reliable traceability, making it difficult for Minsur and its downstream customers to verify the origin and responsible sourcing of materials. This created challenges in meeting growing regulatory requirements (such as EU due diligence and conflict minerals regulations), as well as increasing demand from customers for proof of ESG compliance and responsible mining practices. At the same time, traditional traceability systems were fragmented and did not provide end-to-end visibility from mine to smelter and beyond.
Solution: Minsur partnered with Minespider to implement a blockchain-based Digital Product Passport system, enabling end-to-end traceability of tin across its supply chain. The solution was deployed at scale across the San Rafael mine and Pisco refinery, allowing the tracking of tin from extraction through processing to final customers. The system records key production and shipment data in a secure, tamper-proof digital format, enabling verification of origin, ESG performance, and compliance with international standards.
Results: The project delivered full traceability of Minsur’s tin supply chain, covering over 29,000–30,000 MT annually. It enabled Minsur to differentiate its products in the market through verified responsible sourcing and strengthened transparency with global customers. The initiative became one of the largest industrial-scale blockchain traceability implementations in the mining sector, supporting compliance with emerging regulations and setting a benchmark for digital product passport adoption in raw materials supply chains.
“We developed sustainability principles for all of our operations based on our corporate purpose and values, strengthening our commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Our dedication to these principles not only ensures long-term success for our business and partners but also contributes to the well-being of society and the betterment of our world. Traceability through blockchain technology makes this commitment tangible, sincere and transparent.” — Gonzalo Quijandria
Tata Elxsi — Design and Technology services
Challenge: Battery manufacturers must comply with the EU Battery Regulation while maintaining full control over sensitive and commercially critical data. Battery value chains involve multiple stakeholders and extend across lifecycles of 10–15+ years, generating complex datasets from raw material sourcing through to recycling. This creates significant challenges for OEMs in protecting proprietary battery and supplier data, managing lifecycle information over long time horizons, enabling secure collaboration across supply chain partners, and preparing internal systems for Digital Battery Passport requirements. A key requirement is achieving regulatory transparency without compromising intellectual property or enterprise cybersecurity standards.
Solution: Minespider and Tata Elxsi implemented an on-premise Digital Battery Passport solution designed specifically for OEM environments. The platform was deployed within a secure enterprise AWS environment managed by Tata Elxsi, allowing organizations to operate the system fully within their own infrastructure. This approach enables secure management of battery lifecycle data across the value chain while maintaining data sovereignty, protecting proprietary information, and ensuring compliance with strict cybersecurity and IT governance requirements. The solution also supports integration with core enterprise systems such as ERP, PLM, and MES, and leverages blockchain-based data integrity to ensure trusted and traceable data exchange without exposing sensitive information externally.
Results: The deployment enabled a secure and compliance-ready implementation of Digital Battery Passport infrastructure within an OEM-controlled environment. It demonstrated how regulatory requirements under the EU Battery Regulation can be met while maintaining full ownership and control over sensitive battery lifecycle and supplier data. The solution established a scalable foundation for pilot use cases and future customer deployments, while also validating integration capabilities with existing enterprise systems and confirming that secure cross-value chain collaboration can be achieved without compromising data confidentiality.
