Which DPP deadline applies to my products?
Battery passports are the only binding date today: mandatory from 18 February 2027 for electric-vehicle, light-transport and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Other sectors follow delegated acts under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation — iron and steel first, then textiles, tyres, aluminium, furniture and ICT products — but the years in the Commission's working plan are indicative adoption dates, not compliance dates. Confirm your product category before comparing platforms.
How can I check a provider's "ESPR-ready" claim?
Since 15 July 2026 six harmonised European standards are cited in the Official Journal (Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1736), and a passport built to them carries a presumption of conformity. Ask which standard versions a platform implements, whether it can show conformance evidence, and how it handles GS1 Digital Link, DIDs and W3C Verifiable Credentials.
Who owns the QR address if I change provider?
Ask whether the resolver and the product identifier sit on your own domain or on the vendor's. A passport has to keep resolving for years — for consumers, recyclers and market-surveillance authorities — so links should not break when a contract ends, and a full export in open formats should be available at any time.
What does a DPP solution actually cost?
Pricing ranges from self-service subscriptions with published prices to demo-led enterprise platforms that publish none. Look past the monthly fee to the pricing unit (per product, per passport or per scan), integration effort, data-egress charges and termination costs, then compare total cost of ownership over five years.
Can the platform collect data from my suppliers?
Most passport content comes from tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers, not from your own systems. Ask how suppliers are onboarded, how their entries are validated and approved, how reminders work, and whether the audit history records who entered each value, when, and what changed.
What happens if my provider disappears?
The regulation requires a backup copy of passport data held with an independent third-party service provider, and continued availability after insolvency. Ask about resolver uptime commitments, where the backup is held, and what a documented exit and migration plan looks like — before you sign.
